The Twin Cities has so much to offer that a visitor can hardly capture it all with a short stay in the area. There is a saying here, "A person cries twice, once when they find out they are coming here and then when they find out they are leaving."
The climate is that of a winter city. Long, colorful falls that start along the north shore of Lake Superior and extend down to the southern part of the state along the Root River. That gives residents September and October to enjoy fall. The many state parks, water systems, bike trails, festivals, and sporting events keep autumn a busy time.
Winter in the metropolitan area means some snow, (under 50" a year) clear, blue skies, temps vary from mid 30's to zero, but lots of out door activity. Cross-country ski, down hill ski, ice fish, walk, sled, play hockey or broom ball, skate, build a snowman or catch a snow flake on your tongue. Indoor skating, water slides, shopping, theater, museums, and concerts keep residents from hibernating.
Spring comes as the day light grows. Minnehaha Fall starts tumbling over its limestone shelf. You see more bike riders, the canoes and sail boats come out, gardens are planted and everything is blooming at the Minnesota Arboretum. Quickly, cool days become almost summer like.
Summer comes fast and the Twin Cities can see a many as 10+ days of over 100 degrees. That means all those 10,000 lakes of Minnesota get used. Golfing, fishing, boating, swimming, hiking, outdoor concerts, picnics, gardening -- it all happens. The metro area has so many events planned that there is no excuse to stay inside during the summer. The restaurants open up their sidewalk tables and all is good in the region of walleye. The farmers market is open selling local produce and Minnesotan's are feeling good.
